DIOMAYE DOO SONKO

During the 2024 presidential election in Senegal the rhetoric was Diomaye Moy Sonko in Wolof "meaning Diomaye is Sonko". The duo has unrooted Macky Sall who intended to extend the presidential term from two to three terms to which Pastef lead by Ousmane and Diomaye has already mobilised and sensitised the youth and those fed up by the lack of transparency and good governnance. Both were jailed for their role in oppsoing the incumbent Sall with economic allegations and audit reports that were not in line with the Senegales constitution.
Pastef united the population in fighting and regaining the government of the people for the people-seen as a savior from the French syndrome in African francophone.
After their release from prison two weeks before the presidential elections, Sonko decided to pass the batton to his besty- Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the two were like two in one. This was unpresidented act from an African politician, it made Sonko a examplary and somone who can easisly eran the peolpe's trust. After the Macky Sall administration tried to silence both Sonko and Diomaye which did not work.
Sonko is considered to be a Panafricanist and a man of integrity who would not take orders from Emmanuel Macron and the West. And the disposed admininstration had taken hidden loans few months before the presidential election in 2024. Sonko and Diomaye had all aggreed to follow-up the investigations and to prosecute all those involved working currently in the government and those on the run. Half-way through these investigations rumous indicated that the duo has different approach to clawing these monies back.
Sonko the Vice president was accused by the president himself of being on a witch hunt to wich he does not agree. Since then there have been nemerous press conferences by both men to demonstrate that their relationship is not as it was in 2024.
The Breaking-point
Mr president has had various trips to France as a guest of Emmanuel Macron and travelled to the United States where he suggested to Trump to build a golf coast in Senegal.
Ousmane is the least favorite of the West and Macron due to Panafrican viosions and his model of leadership that that tells Africa to be free and self-sufficent.
The game changer meeting must have been on the 12th and 13th of May in Kenya where Emmanuel Macron handed a blank proposal of 23 Billions Euros to 30 African countries including Senegal, duirng which he had a tete-a-tete with every head of state.
I guess these one to ones were to reiterate the importance of not joining the Sahel states and do without France and theWest.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye disapointed his besty and the majority of the Senegalese electorates who expected a different attitude and vision from him. He had brought in old folks were linked to the previous government and replaced ministers who had opposite opinions to his.
The malority of Senagal had shownn their eralier support for Sonko and this undermined the president's power and intergity flaws.
Finally on Friday 22nd May 2026, Mr Bassirou Diomaye terminated his vice president services with immediate effect, and on the following morning of Saturday Mr Sonko vacated the vice president's resident.
Now the big question is would the "assemblee nationale" protest against the new appointee to Mr Ousmane Sonko's position as vice president? What this space!!!
